Working meeting with the delegation of Mongolia in the OSJD Committee (press-release)
On 16 January 2024 the OSJD Committee was paid a working visit by the delegation of Ulan-Bator Railway JSC (UBZD), which was represented by Enkhtsogt Nyamjav, Deputy Head of UBZD JSC on Administrative Issues, and Sumyaadorj Sandavdorj, Head of Business Administration Service of the UBZD JSC.

In 2023 the work on the development of international passenger traffic in the post-pandemic period continued on the railways of the OSJD member countries. The outcomes of this work, as well as many other issues and tasks related to the organisation and operation of international passenger traffic were discussed at the final meeting of the OSJD railways representatives to consider the results of the work of the OSJD Commission on Passenger Traffic for 2023.

From 7 to 9 November 2023 in the OSJD Committee (Warsaw) the experts and representatives of the railways of the OSJD member countries, OSJD affiliated enterprises and international organisations gathered again for the final meeting of the OSJD Commission on Infrastructure and Rolling Stock in order to consider the results of activities for the previous year and to define further tasks for the next period.

A new railway passenger service opened between the capitals of Latvia and Lithuania (according to LTG Link)
Starting from 27 December 2023, a new daily passenger train service started on the route Vilnius – Kaišiadorys – Siauliai – Joniškis – Jel- gava – Riga and in the opposite direction. The new route immediately aroused great interest among passengers, who managed to purchase more than 2000 tickets on the Vilnius-Riga route just a few days before the first train departure.

Delegation of the Afghanistan Railway Authority held talks in Ashghabat (according to the ARA)
The negotiations were held in the capital of Turkmenistan, Ashghabat, between the heads of the railway administrations of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan The Acting General Director of the Afghanistan Railway Authority (ARA), Bakhturahman Sharafat, accompanied by the ARA delegation, arrived in the capital of Turkmenistan on 30 November to participate in the negotiations.

Official opening of a new transshipment terminal at the Wola Baranowska LHS station (according to PKP LHS)
The PKP LHS LLC (PKP Linia Hutnicza Szerokotorowa) has officially put into operation a transshipment terminal located at the Wola Baranowska LHS station in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship in south-eastern Poland.

The first freight mainline electric locomotive 3ES8 “Malachite” handed over to the RZD OJSC (according to information of Ural Locomotives LLC)
The Russian Railways OJSC received the first mainline electric locomotive produced by the Ural Locomotives LLC, which is planned to be used on the section of St. Petersburg – Babaevo – Ust-Luga of the Oktyabrskaya Railway.
The new electric locomotive “Malachite” is rightfully the flagship among the new generation of freight locomotives: heavy-duty, reliable and economical, incorporating the most modern technical solutions. The 3ES8 loco is equipped with a Russian-made asynchronous traction drive, which is in many ways superior to its foreign analogues.
