The first direct container train from China to Kaliningrad (according to the information of RTSB-RUS as of 27 December 2021)
The RTSB-RUS logistics company, together with the Novik Group of Companies and Maersk, organised the transportation of the first container train from the Chinese city of Zhengzhou to Kaliningrad along the land route through the border crossing of Zamyn-Uud – Erlian. Previously, only transit trains to the European countries ran through Kaliningrad, and only single containers with imported goods were delivered here directly.

PESA to supply 25 tram cars more to Sofia (according to information of the “Zheleznye dorogi mira” Journal)
The PESA Company and the EAD public transport operator in the capital of Bulgaria have signed a contract for the supply of additional 25 Swing tram cars. Under the three previous contracts, the Polish company delivered 37 such tram cars to Sofia.
The final lot of diesel locomotives 2TE25KM and TEM18DM has been consigned to Mongolia (according to information of the “Zheleznye dorogi mira” Journal)
Four 2TE25KM mainline freight diesel locomotives manufactured at the Bryansk Machine-Building Plant (MC BMZ JSC, part of Transmashholding), have been consigned to the Ulan-Bator Railway under a contract signed in 2019.
Placing the China-Laos railway line in operation (According to the information agency “Xinhua” and the magazine “World Railways”)
On 3 December 2021, two trains departed from China and Laos to meet each other, therefore marking the official commissioning of the China-Laos railway line that runs in the terrain being rich of mountains, rivers and other natural obstacles. The opening of the railway line was timed to coincide with the 46th anniversary of the foundation of The Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
Estonia: diesel locomotives to be converted into hydrogen fuel locomotives (according to information of the “Zheleznye dorogi mira” Journal)
The Estonian state-owned freight operator Operail signed an agreement of intent with Stargate Hydrogen in October 2021 to convert 40 diesel locomotives into hydrogen-fueled locomotives. These locomotives will be used for shunting operations.
A high-speed train has been presented for the China-Laos railway line (according to information of the “Zheleznye dorogi mira” Journal)
A ceremony was held in Vientiane for the handover of the first high-speed passenger electric train to the Laos-China Railway joint venture, to be operated on the new railway section linking China and Laos. Laying of track on this railway was recently completed.
Lidars detect obstacles at level crossing in Lithuania (according to information of the “Zheleznye dorogi mira” Journal)
The System integrator Belam (Lithuania) in conjunction with the Cepton based in Silicon Valley (USA) implemented an intelligent signaling system at one of the busy railway level crossings in Lithuania.
The concept of a high-speed 1520 mm gauge train to be developed in cooperation with Siemens (according to information of the “Zheleznye dorogi mira” Journal)
The Railway Transport Engineering Center JSC (a joint venture of the Russian Railways Holding and the Sinara - Transport Machines JSC) and the Siemens Mobility signed a cooperation agreement on a project for the development and production of a high-speed electric train to be operated on high-speed railway lines in the Russian Federation.
Meeting of railway experts on the subject “Systems used for making seat reservations, providing passenger information and other passenger services, and for the preparation of financial accounting documents”
The meeting was organised by the OSJD Committee, Warsaw, as an online videoconference and held on 28-30 September 2021 as required by the Work Plan of the OSJD Commission on Passenger Traffic for 2021.
