The first run of express train Riga - Minsk with goods from India (according to the information of the Department for Corporate Communications and Public Relations of LDZ SJSC)
During the official visit of the representatives of the Government of the Republic of Latvia and the President of the Latvian Railway Group (Latvijas dzelzcels, LDz) in Minsk in the beginning of 2018, the issues of further cooperation development between Latvian and Byelorussian railway companies were discussed, and on 5 February the first freight express train Riga — Minsk departed from the station of Skirotava (Latvia).

The first trial train launched on the railway line Astara (Azerbaijan) - Astara (Iran) (according to the AZD CJSC - ADY)
On 8 February 2018, the first trial freight train composed of six wagons which arrived from Russia and loaded with timber and laminated wood (MDF) set off on the railway line Astara (Azerbaijan) - Astara (Iran). The commissioning of this cross-border railway line is scheduled for March 2018, and it is expected that the Presidents of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran will take part in the opening ceremony of this new line.

A new ferry link put into operation between Turkey and Iran (according to RAI and TCDD)
On 15 January 2018 the Sultan Alparslan Ferry on the Lake Van started its operation. It will provide freight and passenger railway services between Turkey and Iran.

Visit of the delegation of the Republic of Belarus to the OSJD Committee (press-release)
On 21 December 2017 the delegation of the Republic of Belarus paid a working visit to the OSJD Committee. The Byelorussian delegation was headed by HE Minister of Transport of the Republic of Belarus Anatoly Sivak accompanied by HE Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Poland Alexander Averyanov, Head of the Byelorussian Railway Vladimir Morozov and other officials. The OSJD Committee was headed by Chairman of the OSJD Committee Tadeusz Szozda, Deputy Chairman of the OSJD Committee Zhang Qun, Chairman of the OSJD Commission on Passenger Traffic Viktar Kashanau and the OSJD Committee staff.

New rolling stock of Stadler (according to Stadler Minsk CJSC)
Double-decker trains manufactured for OSJD railways in the Republic of Belarus
Beginning from May 2014, the Byelorussian machine-building enterprise “Stadler Minsk” CJSC, which is a subdivision of the Swiss company “Stadler” and is located in the city of Fanipol near Minsk, began the production of the state-of-the-art high-tech modern passenger trains for OSJD countries, where the track gauge of the railway network is 1520 mm. Along with other subdivisions of the concern, Stadler Minsk carries out activities in the field of development, design, construction and production of railway rolling stock for urban, suburban and regional traffic, rack-and-pinion railways, as well as for inter-regional and intercity service. Yet with the launch of the first production facilities, the new plant was actively involved in the project for the manufacture, adjustment and delivery of double-decker electric multiple units of KISS series for the needs of the Azerbaijani and Georgian Railways, as well as the Moscow suburban company Aeroexpress.

III Session of the International Conference for the Adoption of the Text of the Convention on Direct International Railway Traffic
From 27 November till 1 December 2017, Warsaw, the capital of the Republic of Poland, hosted the third Session of the International Conference for the adoption of the text of the Convention on Direct International Railway Traffic, in which delegations from the following OSJD member states took part: Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Bulgaria, Hungary, Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Georgia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, People’s Republic of China, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Republic of Moldova, Mongolia, Republic of Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, Slovak Republic, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Republic of Estonia, as well as representatives of the European Union (EU), Eurasian Economic Commission (EAEC), Republic of Korea, Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail (OTIF) and OSJD Committee.

LDz Loģistika and RTSB companies launching a joint development of the route Asia – Northern Europe/Great Britain (according to the press-service of LDz SJSC)
LDz Loģistika, a subsidiary of Latvian Railway (SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš; LDz), has signed a cooperation agreement with the German company RTSB, one of the leading container freight logistics companies with representation offices in Russia, China, Mongolia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, and elsewhere in Eurasia. Both companies have agreed to co-operate on development of container freight segment between China and Northern Europe and have started working on the development of new multimodal transport routes through the Port of Riga to Scandinavia and the United Kingdom.

Session II of the International Conference to Adopt the Text of the Convention on Direct International Railway Traffic (press-release)
From 27 till 31 March 2017 the II-nd session of the International Conference to adopt the Convention on Direct International Railway Traffic was held in Warsaw (Republic of Poland) attended by the delegations of the following OSJD member countries:

Development of “One Belt – One Road” project in Europe (According to the Xinhua News Agency as of 7 May 2017)
The «One Belt – One Road” initiative envisages the development of railway traffic between the Eurasian countries.
In early spring 2017, journalists from the Xinhua News Agency (PRC) set off to verify the implementation of this initiative in practice, on the routes of container trains running under the brand of “China Railway Express” between China and Europe, having visited several hub stations along the route of Warsaw, Duisburg and London, and the countries that are located along the route of the “One Belt – One Road” initiative.
