Qazvin - Rasht: Commissioning of Another Railway Section of the International North-South Transport Corridor
Background
The plan to establish the international corridor was signed by Iran, India and Russia in 2000 to boost economic and trade ties and reduce the distance for cargo transportation between India and Europe via Iran. The international corridor would connect the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf via Iran to the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Russia and further to the countries of Europe. The corridor’s operation would cut the costs by 30 percent, while the duration of transportation would be 40 percent shorter.

Modernization of a key section of the transit corridor between Prague and Plzen is complete
With the complete commissioning of the Ejpovice tunnel, the modernisation of the currently 14-kilometre long section of the transit railway line between the stations of Rokycany and Plzen has been completed. The concluding ceremony to opened the operation of the tunnel, which took place on 9 December 2018, was attended by Dan Tok, Minister of Transport of the Czech Republic, and Marc Lemaitre, Director-General, Directorate- General for Regional and Urban Policy of the European Commission (REGIO).

PKP LHS with another record in transport and investment for 2018 (according to PKP LHS LLC)
Record transportation volumes
The Broad Gauge Metallurgy Line (Linia Hutnicza Szerokotorowa - PKP LHS Ltd.) has recorded a 6.5% increase in transportation records as compared to 2017. In 2018, PKP LHS transported a total of 10 million 716 thousand tons of goods, gaining the highest score in its history. The year of 2018 was also a record-breaking for the company in terms of completed investments.

PKP PLK to modernize the railway infrastructure in the eastern direction to increase the transshipment potential (according to the PKP PLK JSC)
The uninterrupted movement of trains, the increase in throughput in the main East - West transport corridor, the ability to pass a larger number of freight trains - all this will be possible as a result of investment in increasing the capacity of the border crossing point in the Terespol - Brest section. To fulfill these tasks, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. (PKP Polish Lines) has announced a tender for the design of tracks at Terespol station.

New express train on the route Baku - Ganja - Baku in Azerbaijan (according to the AZD CJSC)
On 29 December 2018, the first new fast-speed passenger train was commissioned the Azerbaijani Railways CJSC from the Baku Railway Station along the route Baku - Ganja - Baku.
The first passengers of the new train were deputies of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan and representatives of media. The guests were accompanied by Javid Gurbanov, Chairman of Azerbaijani Railways CJSC.

Republic of Moldova buys 12 new locomotives (according to the press service of CFM)
The Railway of Moldova has named GE Transportation as the winner of a contract to supply 12 General Electric locomotives to operate passenger and freight services. The 2982-kW diesel locomotives are scheduled to be delivered from early 2020.

New freight route between the Republic of Korea and Russia (according to FESCO, Hyundai Glovis and Railway Gazette)
One of the largest private transport and logistics companies in Russia - the FESCO Transport Group - and the South Korean company Hyundai Glovis have launched a regular container service from the port of Busan to St. Petersburg via Vladivostok. Previously, goods from the Republic of Korea were delivered along the route through the Suez Canal, which took about 40 days. Due to the joint regular container service, goods from the port of Pusan to St. Petersburg with reloading onto the railway transport in Vladivostok will be delivered almost three times faster.

New railway station complex opened in Azerbaijan (according to the press service of AZD JSC)
On 16 November 2918, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, as part of his visit to the city of Sumgayit, participated in the solemn ceremony devoted to the opening of a new railway station complex. Head of State, Ilham Aliyev cut the ribbon, thereby having symbolized the official opening of the complex.

Visit of the delegation of the Republic of Korea to the OSJD Committee (press-release)
On 14 January 2019, the OSJD Committee hosted a meeting between the delegations of the Republic of Korea headed by the Ms. Kim Hyun-mee, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Ms. Sun Mira, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, which included representatives of the Ministry, Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Poland, KORAIL and other South Korean transport companies, on the one hand, and the OSJD Committee headed by its Chairman Tadeusz Szozda, Deputy Chairman Mikhail Vsevolozhskiy, Secretary Attila Kiss, who included chairmen/chairperson and specialists of the OSJD Commissions and Permanent Working Groups.
