Kazakhstan and Pakistan have signed a number of transport agreements
During the official visit to Pakistan by Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the transport authorities of the two countries signed memoranda of understanding on the implementation of joint transport and logistics projects. The parties discussed the prospects for the development of the International North-South Transport Corridor and the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan railway route project, as well as the potential of the Pakistani ports of Karachi and Gwadar.
KTZ Express, a subsidiary of the “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy National Company” JSC (“KTZ NC” JSC), and Pakistan’s state-owned logistics company, the National Logistics Corporation (NLC), have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at developing multimodal transport and establishing sustainable freight flows across a wide range of goods, including grain and milled products, coal, fertilisers, metals, chemical products, and sawn timber.
The cooperation involves developing optimal solutions to ensure full loading in both directions, optimising routes, and minimising logistics costs.
In April 2025, the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Public Works of Afghanistan signed a memorandum of understanding providing for Kazakhstan’s participation in the implementation of the Trans-Afghan railway project Turgundi (on the border with Turkmenistan) – Herat – Kandahar – Spin Boldak (on the border with Pakistan), with a length of 780 km.
