The PKP LHS LLC (PKP Linia Hutnicza Szerokotorowa) has officially put into operation a transshipment terminal located at the Wola Baranowska LHS station in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship in south-eastern Poland.

The implemented investment will increase the volume of cargo transportation on the broadgauge railway line and will make it possible to process the intermodal goods in Wola Baranowska, contributing to the development of modern logistics services in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. “The construction of a transshipment terminal at the Wola Baranowska LHS station is of great importance for the economic development of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship and increases the possibilities of transporting goods by rail, which will ensure the security of supply chains. Such investments show that we care very comprehensively about the development of railway infrastructure. We are creating a holistic transport system that meets the challenges of the present day,” said Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of the Republic of Poland Rafał Weber. “We have been developing our company.

The launch of a new transshipment terminal will make it possible to handle longer trains at the Wola Baranowska LHS station, provide convenient access for vehicles to transshipped goods, improve the smooth movement of vehicles on the loading site, increase the capacity of the railway station and raise the safety of stored goods,” emphasised Chairman of the Board of PKP LHS LLC Zbigniew Tracichleb.

The official opening ceremony of the transshipment terminal of PKP LHS LLC was attended by the representatives of the administration of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, local governments and contractors. The project was financed with the assistance of the EU European Regional Development Fund.

As part of this project, a transshipment and storage ground with a total area of 40.6 thousand m2, new access railway tracks with a gauge of 1435 mm and 1520 mm with signalling devices, and a new access road with a car parking area were built at the Wola Baranowska LHS station. A new telecommunications infrastructure was also established, electricity, water supply and sewerage networks were laid, and a monitoring system was installed. The terminal is equipped with new handling equipment: reach stackers for loading/unloading containers and general cargoes, a wheeled loading machine and a forklift, which makes it possible to handle the intermodal cargoes.
