The two-coach strings, which represent a new type of rolling stock, will gradually upgrade all 15 compositions of train No. 99/100 Vladivostok – Moscow, whereas the double-decker coaches will furnish the trains running between St. Petersburg and Moscow, where the most intense passenger traffic is observed.

All coaches have been designed bearing in mind the best world practices in the field of passenger rolling stock building by using the state-of-the-art technologies, equipment and materials.

One of the important technical characteristics of the new rolling stock is a system for air cleaning and disinfection. Purification of the air incoming from the outside is performed with the aid of two-stage filtration system consisting of preliminary and fine filters. They help retain dust and unpleasant odours. Air disinfection is made by the ultraviolet lamps. They are completely safe for people, as they are under the roof of the coach, and passengers have no contact with them.

Another peculiar feature of the new coaches is that they have been provided with additional passenger seats and service areas for general use, equipped with vending machines for selling drinks and snacks, as well as with coffee automatic machines. They are also equipped with video surveillance systems and electronic displays, additional electric sockets and built-in USB connectors, while the sanitary rooms are fitted with environmentally friendly toilet complexes, a shower, a changing table, contactless soap and water dispensers, hand dryers, etc. To maintain a comfortable temperature, the coaches are equipped with air conditioning systems.

The air purification and disinfection systems are the most relevant devices of great demand at present since they serve to prevent the spread of infections, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Sapsan trains (totalling 160 seating coaches) and Lastochka trains (totalling 845 seating coaches), running on the Russian railways in long-distance service, as well as other night coaches undergoing modernization, have been also equipped with these systems. Today, the FPC JSC’s fleet has more than 6.2 thousand coaches (37% of the total fleet) with air disinfection systems, which are currently involved in the passenger service at maximum possible extent.
