A coal transportation line in Mongolia deploys a TETRA digital radio communication network
The Spanish company Teltronic commissioned a radio communication network of the TETRA standard on the 250-km Tavan Tolgoi – Gashuun Sukhait coal transportation line connecting a large metallurgical and thermal coal mine in the Gobi desert with China.
The line is furnished with two switching nodes (primary and backup), base stations designed to operate in extreme conditions, onboard radio stations on 16 diesel locomotives and track maintenance machines, and desktop terminals for personnel responsible for traffic control, safety, and equipment maintenance.
The 1520-mm gauge line had been scheduled to be put in operation in July 2022. Diesel locomotives for the line come from Progress Rail, a subsidiary of Caterpillar, while wagons and rail fastenings are supplied by Russia’s United Wagon Company and Germany’s Vossloh, respectively.
