Ukrainian Railway JSC (Ukrzaliznytsia) and Deutsche Bahn Engineering & Consulting (DB E&C), which is part of the Deutsche Bahn AG (DB AG), signed an agreement on the provision of consulting services in the field of passenger transportation.

DB E&C will develop a 5-year roadmap for reforming passenger transportation by long-distance and commuter trains, as well as a model for their financing, which will eliminate cross-subsidisation from freight revenues.

The tasks of DB E&C experts include forecasting the volume of passenger traffic and assessing Ukrzaliznytsia’s need for investments in the modernisation of the rolling stock, which is necessary to sign contracts for the provision of socially necessary services (PSO). Moreover, the agreement provides for an assessment of the prospects for the procurement of electric and diesel trains for regional routes and sleeping cars for night trains, as well as the possibility of building the rolling stock in Ukraine within the framework of international cooperation (photo: Ukrzaliznytsia).
