The CPK, a body responsible for the construction of Poland`s central transport hub concluded a contract on technical and economical feasibility study on Katowice-Ostrava high-speed line construction with consortium chaired by the Egis Poland company.

The contract worth 11 m PLN (2,4 million Euro) will be conducted over 11 months with additional 5 months extension for drawing up documentation covering the geological characteristics of area and prepare topographical survey.

The construction works are planed to start in 2024 and the line Katowice – Ostrava will be opened for operation in 2030.

The 75 km long section from Katowice to the border with Chech Republic, as well as the section Jastrzembie Zdroj – Wodzislaw Slaski with links to the planned main station in Jastrzembie Zdroj and extension to polish town Rybin are part of the project.

Further, the line runs to Chech town Ostrava. The high speed line reduces journey time between Katowice and Ostrava to 35 minutes viz. by 1 hour faster than now.

The CPK and the Sprava zeleznic – the Chech rail infrastructure manager determined two border crossing points and a preferred running rout in the border area.

In Poland the line becomes a part of the Trans-European corridor TENT, which runs from Warsaw over CMK and Katowice to Ostrava. The upgrading works are carried out by the polish rail infrastructure manager PKP PLK.

The CPK has in its competence the construction of transport hub, which consists of airport “Solidarsosc” near Warsaw and the network of high-speed rail lines with total length of 1800 km as well as upgrading 2400 km existing rail lines.
