Measures taken to prevent viral infections on the railways of the Republic of Korea (according to KORAIL)
Presenting the information on the measures taken to prevent the coronavirus infection of COVID-19, the KORAIL Corporation invites OSJD member countries to exchange experiences and best practices related to the passenger safety.
Prophylactic measures to prevent the coronavirus infection of COVID-19
In the office premises:
- the use of individual medical masks;
- providing a mouthwash rinser and disposable drink glasses;
- providing hand antiseptic liquids and medical thermometers;
- minimizing the contacts between employees, their movements between floors and rooms;
- remote presentations of official reports and business negotiations using Internet resources and telephone communications;
- monitoring and measuring the temperature of employees three times a day (before, during, and after work).
At the railway stations:
- strengthening of the sanitary-disinfection measures, especially in places where people have hand contacts with various items, including toilets, on the contact surfaces of ticket-selling automatic machines and snacks/drinks vending machines, in elevators, etc.;
- installation of thermal imagers and thermal vision cameras;
- use by all employees and railway workers of protective masks and gloves;
- minimization of physical contacts with passengers, wider use of vending machines, mobile applications, Internet, etc. for buying and issuing of tickets.
In trains:
- disinfection of trains before and after running;
- preventive measures upon arrival of trains at the depot;
- sale of seats by the windows (if possible, when the number of sold seats is less than 50%).
Other measures:
- temporarily suspend the running of touristic trains;
- provide a free travel for medical volunteers in order to precede to the work places and back.
