The first container train from Turkmenistan to China proceeded through Kazakhstan (according to the press service of “KTZ NC” JSC)
As part of the train there were 45x40-foot containers with potash fertilizers from the Garlyk mining and processing complex. The overall length of the route along the ancient Silk Road amounted to about 8.6 thousand kilometers, of which 1654 km - across the territory of Turkmenistan (Kelif - Serkhetyak), 3450 km through the territory of Kazakhstan (Bolashak - Altynkol) and 4584 km via the territory of China (Khorgos - Qingdao). The cargo was delivered to its final destination (to the port of Qingdao) in 15 days, which is 3-4 times faster than the sea route at a competitive transportation tariff.
At the initial stage, the trains are planned to be sent once a month in a test mode. The project is being implemented in cooperation with Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan OJSC, KTZ-Express JSC, representative offices of “KTZ NC” JSC in Turkmenistan and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of China.
The Turkmenian side has highly appreciated the work done by the “KTZ NC” JSC, having expressed its gratitude for the support of this project and for the assistance in resolving organisational issues.
