Afghanistan and Turkmenistan started the construction of a new railway line in the province of Faryab (according to ARA and the Turkmendemiryollary Agency)

The construction of the railway line from Turkmenistan to the station of Akina in Afghanistan was completed in November 2016 as part of the project for the construction of a railway line along the route Atamurat - Imamnazar (Turkmenistan) - Akina (Afghanistan).

A delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Azat Atamuradov, Chairman of the Turkmen- demirellary Agency of the Ministry of Industry and Communications of Turkmenistan, arrived in Afghanistan to participate in the celebrities. The delegation was also represented by the high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Industry and Communications, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the administration of the city of Kerki, the elders of Lebap, as well as representatives of mass media.

The participants and guests of celebrities were warmly welcomed by the Minister of Transport of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Yama Yari, Director General of the Afghanistan Railways Administration (ARA) Muhammad Yamma Shams, the Governor of the Province of Faryab, the Mayor of Andkhoy and other dignitaries, as well as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the IRA to Turkmenistan Mirvais Nab.

After the official meeting ceremony and the exchange of speeches, the heads of delegations cut the ribbon, marking the beginning of operation of the previously constructed 10-kilometer railway section, and then connected the first rail joint of the new railway line to Andkhoy, which will be more than 30 kilometers long.

The memorandum on laying the Akina- Andkhoy railway line was signed by the heads of railway departments of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan in Ashgabat in February 2019.

The new section will be a continuation of the railway line Atamurat - Imamnazar (Turkmenistan) - Akina (Afghanistan), which is part of the transport corridor between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. The traffic on this section from the Turkmen city of Kerki to Akina was launched three years ago. And today, a train arrived in Afghanistan with all the equipment, special vehicles and building materials necessary for the Turkmen constructors to build the new line.
