New passenger route Azerbaijan - Georgia - Turkey (according to the AZD CJSC press center)
The new train arrived in Baku on 29 March 2019, proceeding from Switzerland to Turkey, and then to Georgia, where it underwent tests on a special AGCS facility installed in Akhalkalaki. For the movement of trains in Turkey at the border checkpoint Georgia - Turkey - Georgia, a new facility was built with an automatic gauge changing system (AGCS) to change the width of the wheel pairs of coaches from 1520 mm to 1435 mm and vice versa.
The coaches have been produced with the use of the latest technologies and are presented in four categories - “standard”, “comfort”, “business” and “restaurant”. Depending on the category, the coaches are designed for 10, 20 and 32 passengers. As a total, the train, consisting of nine passenger coaches and a dining car, has 246 seats. The bogies of the train, capable of moving at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour, are equipped with an air suspension that regulates the coach balance when passing the curves. In addition, each coach is equipped with a diesel generator equipment. When the power supply from the locomotive is broken, this will ensure a 24-hour uninterrupted supply of electric power to the coach and passengers in it.
According to the agreement signed between the Azerbaijani Railways CJSC and the Swiss company ‘Stadler Rail Group’, the second stage provides for the supply of 10 more coaches.
