New railway station complex opened in Azerbaijan (according to the press service of AZD JSC)
On 16 November 2918, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, as part of his visit to the city of Sumgayit, participated in the solemn ceremony devoted to the opening of a new railway station complex. Head of State, Ilham Aliyev cut the ribbon, thereby having symbolized the official opening of the complex.
Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Javid Gurbanov informed the Head of State and the participants in the solemn ceremony about the construction of the Sumgayit railway station, about the works for laying the Baku Circular Railway Line, as well as the railway lines Leki - Gabala and Astara (Azerbaijan) - Astara (Iran), about the plans and upcoming work on the projects.
The area of the three-storey Sumgayit railway station complex is 5,500 square meters. The building has been provided with ticket offices, a waiting room, an information desk, a server room, a luggage room, and a shopping center. Besides, 7 railway siding tracks have been reconstructed within the station, the total length of which is more than 5 thousand linear meters; 12 turnout switches have been installed, an underground pedestrian crossing with a length of 43 meters and an underground pedestrian underpass to the platform have been built.
Having inspected the railway station complex, Ilham Aliyev made a trip to Baku on a passenger train providing passenger service on the route Sumgayit - Baku - a modern doubledecker four-section electric multiple unit of the Kiss series produced by the Swiss company “Stadler Rail Group”, which were purchased and delivered to Azerbaijan as part of the locomotive and rolling stock renewal programme and were put into operation on the route Baku - Sumgayit in 2015. The total capacity of the four-section electric multiple unit is 700 people, and the number of seats is 367. The trains can run at a speeds of 160 km/h.
Having arrived at the Baku railway station, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev inspected new passenger trains, locomotives and various railway equipment procured since 2016: the “Evolution” diesel locomotive produced in Kazakhstan, the KZ8A mainline electric locomotive developed by “Alstom”, and the DC VL11M6 locomotive of Georgian production, track maintenance vehicles manufactured by “Plasser & Theurer”, etc. In general, the new rolling stock and equipment purchased in Austria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Russia, Czech Republic and other countries, can significantly improve the quality and effectiveness of railway passenger and freight transport, as well as provide fully automated and mechanized repair, construction and operational processes.PrintBack to list
